Hello Friends and Neighbors of Lost Mountain:

There are many of us in the area who are very concerned about the proposed cell tower going up behind Vaughn Elementary School.  In case you don't know anything about it yet, T-Mobile has submitted a proposal to Cobb County for a Special Permit to erect a 185' cell tower directly behind Vaughn Elementary School.  This will be an eyesore for all the surrounding subdivisions.  Also, if you read the petition, you will understand that this tower is over-kill because there are so many towers located in this area.  This could bring down our property values even lower than the economy has.  In addition, there are growing health concerns nationwide about the safety of cell phone towers for people, particularly children, that live or spend a large portion of time near them.  The research on the long-term health risks is still inconclusive but ongoing; therefore, it seems prudent for us to do all that we can to keep our children from spending 7 hours every day at school under the shadow of one of these towers.

Cell phone tower construction can be difficult to successfully oppose.  The Federal Telecommunications Act of 1996, which was passed under intense lobbying from the Telecommunications Industry, prohibits municipalities from taking health concerns into account when considering opposition to cell phone towers.  There are, however, other viable ways to successfully oppose cell phone towers, and this is where we are asking for your help.  If you support this effort, you can do two things.

  1. Please sign the petition on this link. Stop the Cell Phone Tower Petition We need to submit all opposition to the Planning Board by July 28th.  Both you and your spouse and any other adult living with you can sign.  PLEASE ALSO DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO GET YOUR NEIGHBORS INVOLVED!  We will bring the petition to the August 4th meeting.

  1. Please attend the meeting on August 4th.  It is the only time we can voice our concerns to the Zoning Committee.  An Atlanta attorney with direct experience in successfully defeating utility construction proposals told us that the only way to defeat this is to come out in numbers.  The Zoning Committee has to see that we are coming out in numbers against this cell tower and that we cannot be ignored.

The meeting is on August 4th at 9:00 a.m.
